A Team of Experts in Neonatal Medicine
When your child is under our care, know that they are being treated by a knowledgeable team of neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and hospital staff.  Neonatologists are pediatricians who have completed advanced training and education that allows them to care for sick or premature newborns requiring complex medical attention. Neonatal nurse practitioners also complete additional education and training in neonatal care.  These professionals draw upon their experience, advanced skills and compassion to provide the best possible care for your baby.

In the NICU
Our neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners are available either on-site in the neonatal intensive care unit or on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The NICU is a special nursery dedicated to taking care of sick newborns.  Babies who require special care in the NICU have problems that range from minor to serious.  Some babies may stay only hours, while others may stay for months before they are ready to go home. Your baby's physician will determine his or her length of stay depending on the care needed.

The most common problems seen in the babies needing NICU care are due to prematurity, breathing problems or heart conditions, but many other complications, such as infection, malformations, or surgical issues, may also be involved.
